For the second time since the start from Auckland, Marc Thiercelin broke the 24-hour single-handed speed record. He did 396.5 miles and he was averaging 16.5 knots. But by the end of the day Isabelle was still only 33 miles behind him and faster than Marc. She wrote: "One more fast day behind the front, and we'll be hit by another low, probably a more powerful one. It's getting really cold, and the seas are pretty large, but things are all right. Lots of time spent on watch; not much new happening."

Soldini was more than a knot slower and dropped 112 miles back behind the leader and Josh Hall still had 132 miles to go to reach the Chatham Islands.

The Class II boats were 650 miles behind and experiencing milder weather conditions. They were positioned more than one degree more north and that made a difference. Mouligne was making the best average speed of 12.2 knots and took the lead. Garside dropped from his leading position 20 miles back behind JP. All three leading boats from Class II were widening the gap on really solo sailing Victor Yazykov. He was 290 miles behind them and complaining about not having much wind. The rest of the Class II boats were more than 550 miles behind Yazykov.
