The wind failed to cooperate with Mouligne, who in turn failed to finish that day. At least his email arrived on time: "This few miles are taking forever. I hardly moved all afternoon, and now in the middle of the night I am surrounded by thunderstorms making the wind shifty and unstable. I have 145 miles to go and hope to be in Charleston before 8 p.m. US time tonight. Mike Garside finished yesterday morning. I am disappointed of course not to have won all four legs, but Mike did a superb job. His boat Magellan Alpha is at least as fast as mine and he sailed a very good leg, keeping good boat speed all the time and covering me wisely. I cannot believe that this is all coming to an end and I am full of mixed emotions. On one end I am so excited to finish, see my family and friends waiting for me and secure overall victory. On the other it is sad to think that it is over."

Yazykov was next to finish after Mouligne. He was farthest to the east and he would have to go through showers and squalls over the next day. On Saturday all the boats south of Yazykov were expected to lose wind for at least one full day. The finish was not going to be easy for anybody.
