The approaching low-pressure system and front caused wind shifts not favorable for Soldini. He could not hold direct course for Charleston and as the result of this he lost 52 miles of his lead on Thiercelin.

Class II leaders were still enjoying strong NE tradewinds. Garside and Mouligne were doing almost 12 knots. Garside was a little faster and extended his lead on Moulingne by 44 miles to 248 miles. With Garside’s 1827 miles to go to Charleston, it would be very difficult for Mouligne to gain the lead, especially with his rotten mainsail.

Victor Yazykov was slowly falling behind his Class II leaders, but he was still showing great sailing performance. With his much smaller boat he was almost doing steady 11 knots.

Petersen gained more miles on Saito, but he ran into problem with his food. Petersen reported: "I have a major disaster on board. Most of my food rations for the next two weeks, and some for the rest of the trip, have been ruined. A food crate somehow broke, containing the supplies. All the rice and pasta for the rest of the trip was destroyed. I have a little left from this week's supply. The next two weeks of chocolate, biscuits and cereal [are gone]. I have eaten the last of my fresh fruit. The food that has survived is a few cans and 4 of Gwen's meals. I am doing an inventory of what supplies are left aboard and will have to figure out how to ration the rest of the supplies. I need to consider the idea of going to port to restock as an option, or go on a diet."

The last boat in the fleet, the "Balance Bar" lost 116 miles on Class II leader and was 1,811 miles back with 3648 miles to go to Charleston.
