It was a reasonably quiet day. Last three sailors were doing their best to get to Cape Town as soon as possible. Passing cold front could speed that process a little, but calmer weather was predicted for the second part of week.

Robin Davie was slightly over 200 miles from the finish and he was the only one to send a report. He wrote: "If I weren't racing and in a hurry, these last few days of calms and light winds would have been real pleasant, and a pleasure to be in. Good calm weather with sunny skies and warm feeling to the air is rare out here in the Southern seas below 35 degrees south… I'm not sure racing is quite the word to describe a rudderless boat in a hurry… Our Rudder fund moves forward, and the prospects of getting together most of the things we need for the Cape Town stopover look good. In particular the rudder which is being made for us by Hunter Marine and Steve Pettingill should be ready for air-freighting tomorrow, Monday… Having steadily moved forward all day - the wind is dying away yet again as night falls over a calming sea and clear skies and a fine line moon sets in the west."
