Petersen had only 96 miles left to go but it was not an easy task to cover them. He wrote: "So close, yet not there. I have to endure another night at sea. The head winds forced me all the way inshore to the Argentine coast last night, before I tacked out. The water was very shallow a long ways out. The air temperature is significantly higher than what it has been. It must be about 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The seas are very lumpy inshore and I am fighting current."
On another hand Neil Hunter had a decent old cold front with a lot of hail squalls and gusts to over 40 knots. He had about an inch of hailstones on the deck at one stage. He collected some for the saucepan to use in cooking a meal. They were a lot cleaner and purer than what he had in his water tanks.
