Neal Petersen secured his lead over Saito by leaving him behind by more than 100 miles. In his email Neal Petersen felt sorry for Minoru: "I have overtaken Minoru on Shuten Dojhi and now lead him by almost 100 miles. He is really suffering with his sail damage and in light airs. He wants 30-40 knots, and said in today's SSB sked, it did not matter what direction, as long as it was plenty of wind."
Neil Hunter, just few hundred miles from the Horn, was enjoying company with an unusual albatross: "All OK, no dramas. Breeze is building and we are gybing our way toward the Horn as we can't sail directly to it with this wind angle. At one stage yesterday the seas built to 4-5 meters but have dropped back a bit now. About 400 miles to go to the Cabo de Hornos now so we should be there Friday or Saturday. Saw a juvenile Grey Headed albatross yesterday that was very inquisitive. Made numerous passes before he realized there was no tucker to be had and finally plunked into the water beside me and watched me sail past. He did come back later."
