It was not a good day for Soldini. He lost another 52 miles from his lead on Thiercelin, who was now 318 miles behind his Class I leader. Soldini had only 959 miles to go and Thiercelin could hardly take over his lead on such a short distance and so large a lead.

In Class II, Garside gained another 8 miles on Mouligne. At the end of the day Garside was doing 13 knots with 1619 miles to go. It looked like Garside got finally into a racing mood. Day earlier, he set his own 24 day run record. He covered 333.2 miles with the average speed of 13.88 knots. Garside was holding 256 miles lead on Mouligne who most probably would not be able to cut it down before the end in Charleston. Mouligne’s best 24-hour run was 333.6 miles, performed between the 0340 GMT on 12 and 13 February during the second leg. This was Class II record.

The main body of the rest of Class II fleet was fighting light winds in the Doldrums and in average did not even reach a 5 knot speed. Petersen went over the Equator and finally reached the Northern Hemisphere, but he still had 3000 miles to go, before he could finish in Charleston.
