Mike Garside took second place in Class II at 3:37:57 a.m. local (0637 GMT). He arrived during the darkness of the early morning. It was so dark that race officials and the press had to search for his boat, they could not see the boat within 2 miles of the finish.

After 30 days, 07 hours, 37 minutes and 57 seconds at sea, Garside was very happy to end this leg. "Finally we've got the boat right, the pilots worked, we should have had the gyro compass at the beginning," he said and he added that the keel was finally reliable and that the boat worked without breaking blocks or halyards. He also said that he thinks he finally learned to sail his boat right and that he finally managed to handle the swing keel properly. "You need much less sail altogether. So my sailing skills have improved. But I'm still crap at tactics; I have no idea what to do. I'm still a bloody novice." he admitted.

Just about eight hours later at 11:30 a.m. local time (1430 GMT) Balance Bar arrived with Brad Van Liew. It took them 30 days, 15 hours, 30 minutes and 45 seconds to finish the third leg. The normally bold Brad Van Liew was a different person. "I never knew what heavy weather was until this leg - but I figured it out," he said. He was expected to receive a time allowance for the hours he spent diverting towards Josh Hall's position when the British skipper was dismasted on February 11.

At the same time, Victor Yazykov was 310 miles from Punta and doing 5.7 Knots. The rest of the Second Class Fleet was more than 1850 miles away.
