It was quiet day after all excitement caused by finishers. The next boat to finish was 625 miles away. Mike Garside actually got so much of quietness, that it drived him crazy: "I do not know what I have done to deserve being mocked so cruelly. I could accept losing the wind to drive Magellan Alpha towards the finish line if the other two boats on the same bit of sea with me were suffering the same fate. But no, Gartmore 53 miles due east of me and Balance Bar 88 miles due west are moving at 6 knots. All day, despite posting myself in the cockpit to helm and tack non-stop, trying to gain advantage from every pathetic puff of breeze that passes my way, I have managed to average just 1 knot."

Actually he did only 29 miles during last 24 hours and it looked like he was loosing
ground on Balance Bar which got only 50 miles behind his stern as well as on Wind of
Change now only 450 miles back behind him. The rest of the fleet was quiet. Only Neil
Hunter send a message: "Another mainsail batten car broke yesterday with a consequent
lot of stuffing around fixing it. Missed the radio sched with Neal Petersen and Minoru
because of the above, so will be interested in hearing how they are going this morning.
Both have edged a bit further south, as have I, due to the wind direction. Have just poled
out the headsail and am running dead downwind and due east and I can’t think of
anything else exciting to talk about for the moment so...."
